Does Audio Radar Work with Headsets? | Gaming Audio Setup Guide

Does Audio Radar work with headsets?

Yes, Audio Radar is compatible with headsets, though setup may vary depending on your platform and audio routing preferences.

How Audio Radar Works with Headsets

  1. Audio Radar processes audio directly from the gaming console or PC, not from the headset or external speakers.
  2. If using a corded headset, you can connect it via the 3.5mm audio jack, but headset microphones will be disabled when plugged into Audio Radar.
  3. External audio systems can still be used alongside Audio Radar without affecting its performance.

Platform-Specific Headset Considerations

PC (Requires Voicemeeter for Multiple Audio Outputs)
If you want game audio in both Audio Radar and your headset, we recommend using a free software called Voicemeeter Banana to route audio properly. This is a temporary solution as we are currently developing Audio Radar’s own dedicated software to replace Voicemeeter, offering a more streamlined and optimized solution for multi-audio routing. This will be available soon!

Follow the PC Setup Guide | Advanced Audio (Multiple Outputs) for step-by-step instructions.
Xbox (Full Compatibility)
Game audio and chat work without limitations when using wired or wireless headsets, except for headsets using Dolby Atmos or other spatial audio formats. For those, a quick workaround may be needed to enable 7.1 uncompressed for Audio Radar while maintaining spatial audio for the headset.

*Workaround for Headsets Using Dolby Atmos or Spatial Audio
Some Xbox headsets that use Dolby Atmos or other spatial audio formats may prevent you from selecting 7.1 uncompressed under Speaker Audio in Xbox settings. If this happens, follow these steps to override the limitation:
  1. Unplug your headset from the system.
  2. Navigate to Settings > General > Volume & audio output and set HDMI audio to 7.1 uncompressed.
  3. Complete any other necessary audio configurations in settings.
  4. Back out of Xbox settings completely to ensure changes are applied.
  5. Start or enter a game.
  6. Plug your headset back in—this should allow Audio Radar to receive 7.1 surround sound, while your headset continues to use spatial audio.
Note: If the workaround does not apply or work for your specific headset model, check your headset’s settings or manufacturer’s documentation for additional options.

PlayStation (System Limitations)
PlayStation consoles prevent game audio from being sent to both a headset and Audio Radar at the same time.
To send game audio to both, you may need a hardware solution, such as an HDMI audio extractor or an Astro A50 X headset.

More information is available in our PlayStation Setup Guide.

Conclusion

Audio Radar is not a replacement for your audio setup—it enhances it. Whether you're using headphones, a soundbar, or a surround sound speaker system, Audio Radar provides visual cues to complement your existing sound experience.
