How To Set Up SteelSeries GG with Audio Radar (With Headphones)

This guide shows how to use SteelSeries GG Sonar, Voicemeeter Banana, Audio Radar, and headphones simultaneously.

This setup sends your game audio from SteelSeries Sonar into Voicemeeter. Voicemeeter then sends the audio to both Audio Radar and your headphones.

PC Only: Use this guide if you already have SteelSeries Sonar set up.

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

  • SteelSeries GG installed

  • Sonar set up inside SteelSeries GG

  • Voicemeeter Banana installed

  • Audio Radar connected to your PC

  • Your headphones connected to your PC

Step 1: Open SteelSeries GG Sonar

Open SteelSeries GG.

Click Sonar on the left side menu.

Click Mixer.

You should now see the Sonar Mixer screen with sections for Master, Game, Chat, Media, Aux, and Mic.

Step 2: Turn On Streamer Mode

In the top-right corner of the Sonar Mixer, click the Options button.

Turn Streamer mode on.

Streamer mode lets you choose separate output devices for the Sonar mix.

Step 3: Set the Sonar Master Output Devices

In the Master section, find Devices.

Set Personal Mix to:

Voicemeeter AUX Input

Set Stream Mix to:

Voicemeeter AUX Input

This sends Sonar audio into Voicemeeter.

Step 4: Set Your Microphone Input

In the Master section, find Mic Input.

Select your headset microphone.

Step 5: Check Your Game Preset in Sonar

Click the Game tab at the top of Sonar.

Choose the game preset you want to use.

Step 6: Check Equalizer Settings

In the Game tab, check the Equalizer section.

Step 7: Turn Off Spatial Audio and Smart Volume

Scroll down in the Game tab.

Make sure Spatial Audio is turned off.

Make sure Smart Volume is turned off.

This helps keep the audio cleaner for Audio Radar.

Step 8: Open Voicemeeter Banana

Open Voicemeeter Banana.

At the top-right, you will see Hardware Out with buttons labeled A1, A2, and A3.

Step 9: Set A1 to Audio Radar

Click A1.

Under WDM (WASAPI), select:

Audio Radar

It may show as:

Audio Radar - NVIDIA High Definition Audio

A1 is the output that sends audio to Audio Radar.

Step 10: Set A2 to Your Headphones

Click A2.

Under WDM (WASAPI), select your headphones.

Example:

Headphones

Your headphones may have a different name.

A2 is the output that sends audio to your headphones.

Step 11: Route Voicemeeter AUX to Audio Radar and Headphones

In Voicemeeter Banana, find the strip named Voicemeeter AUX.

On that strip, turn on:

  • A1

  • A2

This sends the same Sonar audio to both Audio Radar and your headphones.

Keep the Voicemeeter AUX volume fader at 0 dB.

Step 12: Open Windows Sound Settings

In Voicemeeter, click the output device menu again.

Click Open Windows Sound.

You can also open it from Windows by searching for Sound.

Step 13: Configure Audio Radar for 7.1 Surround

In the Windows Sound window, go to the Playback tab.

Click Audio Radar.

Click Configure.

Select 7.1 Surround.

Click Next and finish the setup.

This helps Audio Radar receive surround sound channels from your PC.

Step 14: Test Your Setup

Start a game and play audio.

You should hear the game in your headphones.

Audio Radar should light up when game sounds play.

Quick Check

Use this checklist if something is not working:

  • SteelSeries Sonar Personal Mix is set to Voicemeeter AUX Input

  • SteelSeries Sonar Stream Mix is set to Voicemeeter AUX Input

  • Your microphone is selected under Mic Input

  • Voicemeeter A1 is set to Audio Radar

  • Voicemeeter A2 is set to your headphones

  • The Voicemeeter AUX strip has A1 and A2 turned on

  • Audio Radar is configured as 7.1 Surround in Windows Sound

  • Spatial Audio is off in SteelSeries Sonar

  • Smart Volume is off in SteelSeries Sonar

If You Do Not Hear Audio in Your Headphones

Check that A2 in Voicemeeter is set to your headphones.

Also check that A2 is turned on in the Voicemeeter AUX strip.

If Audio Radar Does Not Light Up

Check that A1 in Voicemeeter is set to Audio Radar.

Also check that A1 is turned on in the Voicemeeter AUX strip.

Then check that Audio Radar is set to 7.1 Surround in Windows Sound.

If Directional Audio Does Not Look Right

Make sure your game is using surround sound if the game has that option.

Also make sure Spatial Audio is turned off in SteelSeries Sonar.

Audio Radar works best when it receives clean surround sound from the game.
